Following God One Step at a Time

Light of the World

on December 21, 2014

Most of us don’t like being in a dark room.

In fact, sometimes we walk into one room,

and turn on the light,

then we leave and go into another room,

and turn on the light.

Later in the evening, we realize that we have lights on all over the house!

We don’t like darkness.

We have street lights.

We have lights outside our door,

and in our yard.

We feel safer with lights on.

Yet, we will go about our day,

out into the darkness of this world,

and not think of taking the light with us.

In Genesis, God says, “Let there be light”,

and there was light.

God didn’t like the darkness either.

Maybe that’s why we want lights on everywhere.

Jesus was born under a bright star.

John says in Chapter 3:19, “Light has come into the world.”

Maybe that is why we love to look at Christmas lights.

People spend lots of time and money putting up Christmas lights.

We are trying to remember why we want bright lights at Christmas,

why we celebrate Christmas with lights.

Jesus is the Light of the world.

He tells us so in Chapter 8:12 of John, and then Jesus says,

“Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John says in Chapter 3:20, “All those who do evil hate the light,

and will not come into the light for fear that their evil deeds will be exposed.”

We are born knowing that evil comes in darkness,

so we feel safer with lights on,

but we are using the wrong light.

All we have to do, is pray to Jesus before we leave each day,

and we take the light with us wherever we go.

To be protected against evil,

we need the light of the world, Jesus,

the light of life.

When I get up each day, I pray to God.

I ask God to circle me with His Truth, and Light, protection and healing.

I ask the same for all the important people in my life.

It’s a simple prayer.

Then I go about my day,

knowing I walk with Jesus,

the Light of the world.
