One morning I was awake early, listening to the birds singing. I wondered why they sing. They seem to enjoy it. Maybe they sing simply because they can, because God gave them the gift of song. Maybe they are thanking God for food and sunshine, and for the shelter of trees. Maybe they give thanks for the bird feeder in my back yard, or the berries on the bushes.
God has also given people the gift of singing, and making music. Without music our world would be less fun, less relaxed, less beautiful. Music is a wonderful gift from God. We use music to celebrate birthdays, weddings, holidays. Each celebration is also giving thanks to God — Thanks for another birthday, thanks for the love between two people, thanks for fun with family and friends. In church we use music to worship God and give thanks. I can’t imagine a world without music. I want to remember this beautiful gift from God every time I hear singing!
It seems that the best way to thank God for the gift of music, is to celebrate with music. Every time I hear a bird sing, it reminds me that God has given the world the gift of music, and this gift brings us much joy. That is a great reason to celebrate! Why not celebrate with music every day?
“This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
